(More customer reviews)It took me forever to finally settle on this bag. I narrowed down my search from metal carriers because of the weight and awkward structures that I saw. I couldn't imagine hitting my leg on one of those things as I dismounted my bike. So a sturdy yet pliable material is what I was aiming for. I knew Basil was the brand for me once I saw a lot of their more creative designs, but unfortunately it was pretty difficult to find the same styles in the US. I settled on a bag that I thought was still aesthetically pleasing and would be of use once I wanted to make smaller store runs.
The good: The bag has a genius design; angled side to allow for the movement of your legs as you pedal. The material has a very strong feel, and I am confident that it could stand up stand up in wet weather. The two front plastic straps are very easy to open and close and there is also a small zipper pouch on the front for keys or cell (my myTouch 3G fit snuggly in there). There's also a small plastic handle which isn't all that comfortable if carrying a heavy load, but wouldn't make you blink twice for moving the bag/pannier from your bike to the apartment or house to unload. The brackets that hold the bag/pannier to the rack are also extremely sturdy and reinforced by a velcro strap.
The okay: I was slightly disappointed that there was no bottom strap to hold the bag/pannier to the rack. I suppose they were counting on the weight of the items in the bag to provide enough of a pull, but on NYC's terrain I want all options to best secure my items. I am considering a smaller bungee cord that goes through the front straps once they are secured and around the bag/pannier to secure it to the rack. There also aren't inside pockets, but I already knew that and decided the other features (angle side, wet weather compatible, simple design) were more important.
I would recommend this item to others, and I am looking forward to purchasing more Basil items when I find them in NYC.
