(More customer reviews)Super spare tire bike rack at half the cost of some other spare tire racks, and you don't have to take off the spare to install it ! It's lightweight and easily adjusts to different-sized tires (lift off the tire for easiest adjustment), and a big nylon strap secures it. A little nylon strap also comes with it, and we tie the pedal of the first bike to the bottom of the rack to prevent swinging. This could be important, because swinging bikes might put a pedal in your bumper's paint, but tying the closest pedal to the bottom of the rack is the easy solution.
RAV4 owners: this rack worked well on our 08 RAV4 Sport. It's initially tricky to thread the strap through behind the spare tire's mounting plate, but after the first time, it only takes seconds. On our car, the rod initially touched the body, but it didn't cause any damage. Once you run the strap through, it creates a space. We decided to leave the shipping plastic on anyway, (could have used a cloth to guard the paint) and had no damage. It's very sturdy, mounts up nice and tight, and we took it down the interstate for hours. It was even really windy part of the way, and we had with no troubles.
Customer service with Saris/Graber is responsive ! I contacted them via the Internet (there's a phone # too at the bottom of the page with the Internet form) and asked for some more cap plugs (for unused holes in the rack frame) and got a quick response.
The price is good (around $80.00 retail) and it folds up nice and flat for good compact storage. It's even got a hinge with holes for a padlock so you can lock your bikes.
As with most racks, it helps to have some ties and maybe some protection to keep your bikes and your car free from scratches. Saris/Graber sells some protective padding separately, but we used bungy cords with care and got a great result.
