The Gear Up Lean Machine 2-Bike Gravity Stand
The box it ships in comes nicely compact, so it's not a strain to carry. There are instructions that make sense (a plus!), and nothing is too complicated about assembly.
The stand leans nicely against the wall, and holds the 2 bikes (one a heavy beach cruiser, most of the weight on its 2 wheels on the ground, and the other a ligthweight racing bike) well, no problems there.
The black rubber-coated hooks on which the bikes rest are sized right and don't scratch the paint. For my woman's bike, I hang it on the hooks from one of those cross-bar adapters (clamps on under the seat and under the handlebar, to imitate a top tube - needed it for my car's bike rack), but I think it would work fine without it. The hooks can be moved up and down the tube to accomodate different sizes and kinds of frames (top tube like a man's bike, or curving tube like a woman's bike).
Cons would be that the parts are not exactly precision machined. I just destroyed the paint job when sliding on the hook assembly - the inside seam was really jagged and stuck out too much, so it peeled off paint WAY too much (and it was a tight fit, so I had to V it back and forth to make it slide in where I wanted, meaning that I now have a whole section of V-shaped deep scratches all along that section. But just one of the 4 hooks was like that, indicating it was not an operator error). Most of the holes lined up right (easy to get the screw in just with fingers), but one set of holes did not line up right and could not be made to line up right. I was able to get the screw in sideways and screwed it in halfway until it wouldn't go any further, so I'm hoping it'll hold. So far so good. So this is not German engineering at work here.
I used the dry-wall anchors and screws to hold the rack in place against the wall. So far it's fine. A bit wobbly/loose even with the anchors, but I think that's just how it is, and it holds up fine.
This is a good bike rack, particularly for the price, and was just what I needed to clean up my bike-cluttered apartment (I can't easily drill into my solid-concrete floors or ceiling, and I have popcorn plastered ceilings so didn't want to do the tension-mount kind of rack).
