I bought this fast for immediate use from a limited selection available in a bike shop and was pleasantly surprised by its overall performance. Build quality (for plastic) feels adequate, it mounts easily enough, installing batteries is quick, and best of all it's a surprisingly bright light with a flash mode that's a dependable attention-getter to car drivers without being obnoxious to fellow bikers behind you on say a suburban bike path. No drawbacks for me, and it's definitely visible from the rear for several hundred feet under city streetlights (and of course further on a dark unobstructed bike trail).
I'm pleased with it, and for $10 it's a great choice for bike-path riding. However, if you plan to commute or your route brings you into the same lane with cars with any frequency, I'd spend the extra $15 and upgrade to the $25 Planet Bike Super Flash, which so far is the brightest tail light I've seen anywhere. (click above for my review).I can't contrast either the Mars 1 or the SuperFlash to the other higher-power Blackburn products because I just haven't seen them yet.
So for casual riding and bike trail riding, this is a great choice. To share lanes with cars, I'd play it safe and go with the Planet Bike Super Flash ($25).
