They attach very easily and quickly to my rack (I have a standard Planet Bike rack) and are very easy to detach and take with me. They stay securely attached during long and bumpy rides, even through the many pothole-laden streets of Chicago. On some of the bumpiest roads, I'm more worried about myself falling off than having to worry about these bags! You can fit a fair amount of cargo in each of them - a small load of groceries, change of clothes/shoes, probably a little more if you wanted to. I only wish there was a pocket somewhere for smaller items. Still an excellent set of bags!
