Valley Trunk Mounted 3-Bike Carrier Review

I bought this rack from an Amazon store on Tuesday and recieved it on Friday. I like this inexpensive, simple, sturdy and user friendly bike rack. My sedan has a spoiler but it was no problem to install this rack. I keep my dropforge #14 wrench in the car to secure the rack's screws at anytime needed. Also I used a hammer to bend the V-shaped hooks narrower that go to the bottom edge of my trunk hood. I tested to carry two bikes (a mountain bike and a BMX) to the parks around town (4 miles radius) with no problem. Also I tested to carry just a mountain bike out of town for 40 miles roundtrip (total of 80 miles) via intercity roads (not the highway) non-stop with no problem. As soon as I arrived at the location I checked and secured all straps tighter (its suggested by the manual). This rack has "fish fin" on both arms to hold the bike from sliding. Its arms are adjustable to any kind of bike. Some other racks can not be used to carry a dual suspension mountain bike. Before I bought this rack I have read many reviews about Allen, Bell and Schwinn on the internet. I think I like this SportRack from Valley Industries, Inc. better than those three other products that are a little bit more expensive. Order from Amazone store is cheaper shipping cost than directly from its dealer in Michigan. Next time if I go out of town via highway with this rack and my bike on I will report it here. Give it a try! Valley Trunk Mounted 3-Bike Carrier Valley Trunk Mounted 3-Bike Carrier

Polaris Steel Folding Bike Review

Polaris Steel Folding Bike
Average Reviews:

I can't really recommend buying this bike. I bought this bike mainly because it was available through Amazon Prime and I needed it within a day or two. I didn't realize it is only a one-speed bike, while this is because of my own mistake, I must say that the one speed is a bit of a pain.
Other issues with the bike: It is difficult to put together. Not only do you have to assemble some of the pieces which is to be expected, but several of the factory put together pieces need to be adjusted and tightened. The worst part has been the pedals. When I took the bike out to test ride it the pedals immediately snapped the first time I tried to stand up to peddle up a hill. I tried wrapping the pedals in duct tape to prevent them from breaking worse since, as you will see, I didn't have time to go out and buy new pedals and was hoping to not have to do so. Unfortunately, I was not so lucky.
I received the Bike in the mail on Wednesday, it took me until Friday to get it fully and properly put together (There are still a few things I need to adjust and fix, such as the back brake doesn't work very well even after tightening it). I left for Nantucket on Saturday for a week which was why I needed the bike in the first place. Saturday night after only having ridden the bike once, both pedals completely ripped off. I a still not sure how it could have happened, but they are completely ruined and beyond repair. New pedals just cost me $25.
I really cannot recommend buying this bike. Now that I have new pedals and have most of the problems with it fixed, it isn't too bad of a bike. But you can get a much more reliable bike for cheaper on here, and have gears. I am going to give this bike a shot, as I have already invested too much to just give up on it and after this week it won't be tested too hard, but if I could go back... I would buy a different bike.
Update: It appears the housing that the pedal screws into was completely mangled and it is now impossible for me to install the new pedals I purchased. Great.

Topeak FlashStand Slim Review

Topeak FlashStand Slim
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Before I bought my expensive road bike, I had a my hybrid bike and put a kickstand on this bike. Face it, kickstands are PRACTICAL. There are too many places where you get off the bike, but there is nowhere to stand the bike, except on the ground.
I bought a road bike a few months back, and alas, no kickstand. I had difficulty standing it against things, and people kept telling me that I shouldn't lay it on the ground. Enter the flashstand! Now, when I go for a ride, I bring it, and when I need to get off my bike voila - instant kickstand!
The flashstand is lightweight and compact. It folds up into about a 6 inch strip, so you can just put in your bento bag or pocket.
When I went to my local bike store, one of the employees saw me using it, and he ran up to me, asked to borrow it, and showed it to his manager (they don't sell the flashstand at this store).
I do not know of any other contraption that would allow me to have a kickstand on my carbon frame bike, so I'm pleased with the flashstand.
True, what they say - it's not compatible with all bikes. I have a Madone 5.1 WSD and it works fine with this. According to the manufacturer, it is compatible with "Shimano® Dura Ace, Ultegra or 105 non-drive side crank arm with a dimension of 35mm x 80mm to securely hold a 700c road bike".
Somone also mentioned stability as an issue. It is not as stable as a good kickstand, but it's workable. When using it, there is better stability if you turn the front wheel in the opposite direction of the side the flashstand is located.
All in all.....for me, it's a must have, and I give it a 4 of 5 stars.

Feedback Sports Sport-Mechanic Bicycle Repair Stand Review

Feedback Sports Sport-Mechanic Bicycle Repair Stand
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been looking at many different bike repair stands for 6 months now. I wanted to be able to easily work on my bike without setting it upside down to work on it. This was my answer.
I looked at many different stands that cost less than $150 including Park Tools, Sette, and others. This was actually the last one I found, but liked it the most for several reasons.
-The tripod base: The tripod base is much more stable than the type with only two legs. This thing has a huge footprint, keeping it very stable.
-Adjust-ability: Has a wide range of heights you can choose from; from down low all the way the where the bottom bracket sits up to chest height.
-Quality design: The overall design is quality built. From the thick aluminum tubes to the heavy duty screw type clamp. It feels very solid and will be able to take some good wrenching. I feels as though it will have not problem holding the bike still even for bottom bracket bearing service/removal.
-Looks great: I know it is just black, but for some reason this stand is visually attractive to me.
-Ease of use: This stand is real easy to unfold and get upright and ready for the bike. Once up the clamp collars hold everything in place. It fold up relatively small, but it is actually bigger than what the picture lead me to believe. (the bike stand in general)
I have heard, and noticed, on the lower end park stands, the clamps are sub-par, The clamp on this one however is very nice and heavy duty was built in. The clamp easily adjust to my seat tube and holds the bike with a death grip without marring the finish. I think this stand will have a long life, supported by a good company.

Floor Bike Holder Review

Floor Bike Holder
Average Reviews:

Let me start off by saying that the product works and does its job. However, when putting it together, you get the feeling that it costs $5 to manufacture. I had to get out the drill to tweak one of the holes to get a bolt to fit. Many of the threads were painted over, making it a touch more challenging to the get bolts to start threading. One bolt was missing (calling Amazon shortly) and one of the two racks is wobbly. So not the highest quality product. Oh, and I couldn't stick the rear wheel into the rack as the derailer hit the rack so the wheel wouldn't go all the way in. Don't have any other racks to compare with, but there's got to be better options out there.

SportRack A90275 Aero XL Roof Box Review

SportRack A90275 Aero XL Roof Box
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Was very easy to mount on the Sequoia, and feels pretty sturdy (and watertight). Absolutely no wind noise or rattling could be heard inside the vehicle at 75 MPH. I bought it because the width and height makes it better for carrying family stuff than comparable size Thule or Yakima boxes, though it's not long enough for skis. Low price is a huge bonus. I also like that it opens from the back instead of the side, since on my tall vehicle the easiest way to reach the box is standing on the rear bumper. I looked at the big name boxes, and I can't see how they are worth 2.5x as much.
**UPDATE** Have now taken on a few long trips. It did not seem to affect gas mileage at all, and stayed dry inside through 300 miles of downpour. I have to take it off to fit in the garage, which would be true of any box, but I can get it on or off in less than 10 minutes. I fit 2 carry-on suitcases, 4 sleeping bags, a stroller, a full-frame baby backpack, and a small baby bouncer seat inside.

Schwinn Women's Gateway City Bike - 28" Review

Schwinn Women's Gateway City Bike - 28

First of all it is very cute to look at. It has fenders, rack and chain guard so it looks expensive. The cream color with brown writing it very pretty. We purchased the bike for our 10 1/2 year old daughter who is 5'5. Yes, I said 5'5. She is tall but young so we wanted something that did not have too many gears that might be a little confusing not to mention unnecessary for her. We rode 10 1/2 miles the first day and she never complained about pain like she did with her mountain bike. She was able to shift the gears easily too. The 28 inch hybrid tires make it a smooth ride. I definitely recommend this bike for anyone who enjoys long bike rides or quick rides to the convenience store! All in all, it's a good buy! Happy riding!!

Princeton Tec Eos Bike Light Review

Princeton Tec Eos Bike Light
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
LED headlights are getting better all the time. This little guy is a one Watt Luxeon LED with very good power regulation. Regulation means that the light gets the most from a set of batteries and keeps the light at a given brightness instead of dimming as the batteries weaken. The Princeton Tec EOS has three brightness settings and a flash mode. I actually find the flash mode to be too slow to be useful on the bike and it flashes at full power but these are minor nits. I'd also prefer if the light used AA instead of AAA cells. So I guess there are two things I don't like about this light.
But the positives far outweigh the negatives. The light is small and is supposed to be waterproof to one meter. (I don't ride under water so I haven't tested that feature!) It's easy to operate and the batteries are easy to change. The light pattern seems to be just right for my riding. I use this light on my helmet but it also comes with a handlebar mount. I run the light at the lowest power setting most of the time and that's fine for reading my bike computer or cue sheets. The middle setting is better for general riding, spotting road signs and potholes and things like that. At the highest setting, you get the brightest beam but of course that eats through the batteries quicker.
I'm pretty sure the circuit in this light was designed by Willie Hunt, a real guru in bike lighting circles. And yes, I'm enough of a nerd that I actually keep track of things like that. Anyhow, the Princeton Tec EOS is my latest favorite bike toy.

the seat strap packs seem very popular, but i think this frame pack is far more practical
1) reachable and easily accessible, even while driving
2) it the perfect size.. its not bulky yet has enough room for everything: phone, keys, tools, money and alot more.. .. btw it has two seperate compartments.. somethin that doesnt show in the product picture.. i find that very nice, i don like to mix scratchables with scratchees
3) it straps to the bike easily .. no problem there... and quite stable on the road
4) its out of your way.. meaning it doesnt bother me peddling
5) looks sturdy

Swagman Yakart Kayak Cart Review

Swagman Yakart Kayak Cart
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Great product. The frame is solid, the dual kick stand opens and closes with a nice snap. Very happy. The wheels come off with simple clip/pin. The unit rolls very well. Only problems/complaints are the straps they give you are stupid..super long and with a weenie cheap cam lock. Dump the straps and use a single long good bungie cord. You can strap the chord around your kayak and anchor it at convienent clip holes located on the cart down low by the tires, you'll see this clip hole on the unit where the small straps attach to the kick stand. One other thing: filling the tire tubes with air is a pain as the air valve stem, which is long enough, keeps diving back into the wheel rim as you try to attach a pump. Then it's hard again to get your pressure gage on the air valve. Once filled though, the air pressure stays good and the tires, and the unit, work and roll great across any surface or dirt trails. Good buy at less then $100. I know these kayak carts seem pricey as you can buy a whole kid's bike for $90 at walmart, but this unit is quality and as good as any of the $120, $130 priced carts I've seen at stores and elsewhere on line. Don't buy the cheap $65 carts, get this unit if you can find it at under or near $100

I lost the bike rack system component in a move. I struggled finding replacements in my area and was fearful I would have to buy the whole system again (I have the ski system as well). But then I decided to check online and happy for me I found the system. A quick check on Google brought me to the three lowest prices (the replacements from Softride were $40 more than anywhere else) and the Amazon seller had them for the lowest price and the lowest shipping.
The item arrive quickly and in perfect shape. Although its officially still winter here I have had the occasion to use them a couple times and they work perfectly. They even have an upgraded pad that holds the frame of the bike better. These pad can be flipped down out of the way for easy loading and unloading.

Cateye TL-LD1100 LED Bicycle Tail and Safety Light (Red) Review

Cateye TL-LD1100 LED Bicycle Tail and Safety Light (Red)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the Cateye TL-LD1000 at my LBS. It was an impulse buy when I was taking home a new bike. The light appeared impressive in the packaging---big with LOTS of LEDs, so I thought it would compare favorably with the lights I used on my other bike(that frame was at the manufacturer being repainted after being hit by a truck)---the Planet Bike Superflash.
The Cateye light is a capable taillight. It's well made, and offers side visibility. However, it is not nearly as bright as the Superflash, which is cheaper, to boot. The Cateye light is larger than the Superflash, heavier than the Superflash, and eats batteries at a greater rate than the Superflash. My LD-1000 has been relegated to use on my town bike, which is only ridden in well-lighted neighborhoods at night.
So, if you need a taillight which will give you confidence at night----buy the DiNotte taillight. It's quite expensive($150+) but it puts out 140 lumens---which is brighter than most HEADLIGHTS. If the DiNotte is out of your price range, buy the Superflash. Buy several. If you are set on buying the Cateye, you won't be disappointed. It's a good light. But there are better options.
Also, the blurb in the item description is not accurate. Cateye's HL-EL530 is not anywhere near the brightest LED headlight on the market. It may be the brightest for under a hundred bucks, but it's not close to the Niterider MiNewt or TriNewt, the DiNotte headlights, the Light and Motion headlights, or especially the lights from Lupine. Those are all much more expensive, but is lighting REALLY where you want to pinch pennies? It amazes me when I see guys on 5 thousand dollar Madones riding at night with three dollar blinkies and Cateye headlights. Meanwhile, I ride a Gunnar with a DiNotte 600L.:-)

Featuring 10 red LEDs, this tail light is bright enough to be visible even during daylight and has two LEDs on each side to provide bright side visibility for extra safety. The light also incorporates Cateye's OptiCube technology, which was developed for headlights, to optimize brightness. Each row of LEDs is independently controlled by a side-mounted switch and offers four different modes, for a total of 16 combinations. Three of the modes are flashing to attract extra attention from motorists. The light mounts easily on any seat post from 18 to 44 mm in diameter. A clothing clip is also included.
About Cateye Founded in 1946 in Osaka, Japan, CatEye is the leading manufacturer of cycle computers, lights, and reflectors to cyclists in the world. In 1964, CatEye was the first in the industry to create a flashing lamp for bicycles, followed by their first battery headlamp in 1982, and the very first bicycle head lamp using white LEDs in 2001. The company's Opticube lens and reflectors make the brightest and most efficient LED headlights. while their LD500 remains the only rear safety light that can meet the rigorous CPSC standards for reflectivity.

Topeak PrepStand Elite Bicycle Repair Stand Review

Topeak PrepStand Elite Bicycle Repair Stand
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this stand after comparing a number of other stands, including other various Topeak, Park, Pedro, and Spin Doctor stands. Most of the stands in the same price range accomplish the same tasks with the same ease; but there are a few tidbits about the Topeak that i liked:
1. it has nice heavy-duty aluminum tubing (the pictures don't adequately demonstrate this), which more than adequately supports the bicycle in its 360° rotation. i thought about building my own stand at one point, but buying this stand is definitely superior to anything i can fabricate from Home Depot plumbing parts. *laughs*
2. it is collapsible--although it is still over 3' tall once collapsed--and the QR mechanisms mean it is a cinch to take it out and put it away (handy in my tight-for-space apartment). It fits in my parts closet easily (oh for the day when i have a garage!). it telescopes upward so you can work on the bike at various height levels; i had the drive-train at head-level just yesterday--that was fun.
3. the third tripod leg seems sturdier to me than the stump on the equivalent Park stand (the Super Lite Home Mech). Plus the handy little parts bin is not completely without value, although it's more value-added than truly useful. Incidentally, i chose not to buy the Topeak with the built-in digital scale, mostly in part because i don't race, i have no illusions about being the next Tour de France winner, and the 1-2# extra means more workout for my thighs. This model appears to be identical to the Spin Doctor Pro G3, so price and shipping charges affected my decision here. I suspect both of these units are made at the same plant in Taiwan (the Topeak is made in Taiwan).
my days of flipping the bike upside down will not be missed. why did i wait so long to get a proper stand?

Axiom Columbia FT Trunk Bag Black Review

Axiom Columbia FT Trunk Bag Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ok so I wanted a rack top bag that would do its job and still look good on my bike so I went with this one that matched my dahon eco7 perfectly... So the bag is very nice looking, to my surprise the stiffness of the bag makes it look and work better. The fist day I used it it was raining pretty bad out when I was on my way to work and all my stuff inside was COMPLETELY DRY!! The bag must've dried up pretty fast too cause I never saw it dripping. This bag has a TON of room I'm able to carry my pump , deodorant, biking gloves, back support brace, change of shirt and underwear( i hate being sweaty),my big lock, head light, wipes, and still have space to take my lunch to work... AND THATS ALL WITHOUT THE PANIERS! This bag has more than enough room for me or any one who's using this back to commute to and from work and likes to go on a weekend ride.
The reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars is because I wish this bag had some extra pockets to divide my little stuff (like cable cords, and shades) and not have to search in the big trunk all the time. I would suggest putting in a zipper mesh pocket on the inside top of the trunk. The ones on the side of the paniers are too small to really put any thing. I currently put my shades and cable cords and net in the paniers folded up, I believe theres enough room in the trunk to fit these small items comfortably if the company would've added some extra pockets to keep it organized. I also wish the top of the trunk had some pull cords for extra storage of quick needs (bottles or a towel).
Overall I'm Happy with my purchase the easy double sided velcro that allows you to just pull the bag off is a Nice touch.
