(More customer reviews)I'm a full-time bike commuter and have built a trailer for large shopping trips and hauling. I bought a pair of these panniers for quick runs to the store for one or two bags' worth of groceries when hauling the trailer would be a burden. These panniers are large, well-reinforced, look good, and are multi-functional. I use a single pannier as my lunch tote, which I haul on my bike rack along with my briefcase. In this way, if I need to swing by a store on my way home, I've got extra room for sundry goods or a few odds and ends at the grocery store.
A few things to note: this is a rather large pannier, so depending on your bike's geometry and the type of rack you use (as well as the size of your feet [I'm size 10]), your heel clearance may be limited. I position my pannier as far back on the rack as I can and it works fine. Also, the hooks that go over the rack are metal--a nice feature for durability--but they're not coated with plastic or anything. Consider wrapping them with electrical tape to prevent scratching your rack. Finally, the pictures don't show it, but the pannier's closure is a heavy-duty zipper which is revealed when you separate the two carry handles, which are secured together with velcro.
I did a lot of comparison research before buying these and highly recommend them based on size, durability, and versatility for shopping and in-town carrying. My laptop (an older Dell, 14" x 10.5") will fit in it, but I haven't attempted to use it as a laptop case.
